Commemorative Speech Planning Sheet

Topic of your speech: My Dad, a man worth praising

General purpose: (choose one: informative, persuasive, inspire, entertain)
Inspire
Specific purpose statement: (write this down to make sure that you have thought through your purpose. You do not say this statement in the speech)

My specific purpose is to inspire my audience by praising my Father.

Introduction:
Attention step: How will you hook the audience?
I will start off with a special memory I have of him and I when I was little that always reminds me of why he is such an Inspiration.
Credibility step: (state your experience, your research or both)
As well as growing up with my Dad my whole life, I went to my Grandmother for further information on his childhood.

Central idea: one sentence (sometimes called a thesis) that sums up whole speech that you say in the introduction. It should be something like: "Today I would like to pause and praise ....).

Today I want to tell all of you why my Dad has been a true inspiration, and the main reasons he is worth my praise.

Preview: Road map for the audience your main points. (May be part of central idea).
My dad has been a true inspiration and is worth my praise because he raised me as a single parent, worked many jobs to get the items I needed, and always loved me unconditionally.

Main Points: (sum up how you will develop the body of the speech. First you will ______, then you will _______...)

First I will talk about where he is from and how he grew up. Then I will talk about how his rough childhood made him an inspiring parent, and finally I will talk about how he has helped me with major decisions in my life.
